Where does bigger investment in education yield better results? Score Academy believes it’s in students.
There’s a different sort of climate change that’ we’ve observed: that of the U.S. education system. Not unlike the dramatic weather events of late, the changes in schooling that we see are cause for concern. While substantial funds have been poured into education over recent years, many are still left wondering: Where is the return on investment?
It appears that the decision-makers have been focusing harder on increasing staff than on students. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is a federal statistical agency responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the condition of U.S. education with the purpose of improving student outcomes. According to its recent study, administration has increased by 95%, number of principals and assistant principals by 39%, teacher numbers by 10%, while the student population is up by 5%. Is the government school system prioritizing job creation over learning? If so, that’s worrisome, considering that the emphasis should be on educational outcomes for students.
And how about spending? The phrase “you get what you pay for” suggests that splurging buys you a higher quality product, while scrimping buys you a lesser one. Yet, ampler federal spending has failed to boost quality of education if you’re primarily using student performance as a barometer. The National News Desk reports that while the U.S. significantly outspent Japan, Canada, Korea, and Taiwan, it was bested by those countries academically. So, if “money doesn’t buy happiness” as they say, apparently it doesn’t buy good grades either.
The status of elite universities has plummeted due to the recent behavior among their student populations. It doesn’t take a Ph.D. to recognize that more energy is being devoted to activity outside of the lecture halls than in them. Is what we’re observing free speech or hate speech? Peaceful protest or incitement to violence? These matters are up for debate, but what’s indisputable is that the safety of all students isn’t assured, and that classes aren’t always in session.
Here at Score Academy, with positive priorities we do things differently.
For starters, we don’t believe in hiring more staff; we believe in hiring better staff. Our teachers and administrators are whip-smart, intensely caring, and remarkably versatile. They’re not just teachers but also mentors. The teachers at Score are well-versed in our school philosophy: every student is his or her own individual, and in turn, should be treated at such. Our academic standards are high, yet so is our level of commitment when it comes to providing additional support and guidance as needed and to bolstering the self-esteem of every student who walks through our doors. Smaller, more intimate class sizes ensure specialized attention and extra care, because that’s what your child deserves. Yes, we want our students to “score at the top,” as schools and learning centers proclaim in their name! While we are dedicated to helping our students reach the pinnacle of their scholastic potential, we also work hard to instill a love of learning that Score kids can take with them and cherish long after they graduate.
We realize that for parents, safety is of the utmost importance. That’s why we’re extremely proud of the safe space we’ve created here at Score. Welcome to an inclusive, judgment-free, bullying- and harassment-free environment that surpasses anything you’ll likely find elsewhere. It’s one of the reasons so many families trust Score Academy with their children’s education. Our students are encouraged to think of themselves and their peers as individuals, and we believe that’s largely because we treat them as individuals.
Our nation’s education system is, for the most part, beyond your control. On the other hand, you can choose the right learning environment for your student. That’s why we hope you’ll choose Score. Call us or stop by; we’re here to answer all your questions.
